Diana's Diary: Entry 5

Dear Diary,

Today was a day from hell. It went from bad, to worse, to torture. I know I’m not perfect, but surely I don’t deserve this.

The nightmare started when Mr. Lane called me into his office to give me my community service assignment. I was surprised by my own optimism. Maybe community service will help me connect to my peers, I thought, or maybe it will even earn me some genuine respect for the first time in my life.

But no, life is never that fair, is it?

Of all the things Mr. Lane could have assigned to me, he stuck me with gum removal duty. Yep, that’s right, Millwood has a gum epidemic and suddenly it’s my job to scrape it all off. He released me into the hall with a spackle tool and rubber gloves to fend for myself like some kind of bottom feeder.

Diary, let me tell you, scraping gum off the bottoms of desks and water fountains is this worst thing to happen since my parents split up. It wasn’t humbling, it was humiliating. Autumn talked down to me as if I were her property, Jenna acted like she didn’t know me…even the janitor laughed at me.

That was the last straw, and the motivation I needed to get back on my feet. It suddenly occurred to me that I could fight back. Why was I just letting Mr. Lane make me suffer for some stupid infraction? What was I thinking going down without a fight? How dare they treat me like this?

You know what? Starting tomorrow, it’s no more Miss Nice Princess. Enough is enough, I’m taking back my throne.

Until next time,

Princess Diana
