The Making of Holiday Spectacular
We sat down with writer Adrienne Schaffler to learn more about the making of Holiday Spectacular. Scroll for the behind-the-scenes scoop!
What was the most fun thing about writing the holiday spectacular?
It was really fun bringing together characters from across the Brat universe, and getting to introduce them to each other on screen. I’ve also loved Matthew RC Taylor since watching Baby Doll Records, so writing a role for him was a joy!
What were some of the challenges working on this project?
We decided we wanted to write the Holiday Spectacular in a Love Actually-esque way— in that there would be many interweaving stories. That kind of storytelling is always a bit of a challenge, because you have to track so many different characters and story arcs. It definitely takes more planning and organization than a usual project might.
What are you most excited for the fans to see?
I’m really excited for our audience to get the crossover of their dreams! The fans make my job even more fun, because they are SO obsessed with our characters, I just want to give them the juicy/fun story lines they’ve been hoping to see. I personally am obsessed with Rhyme and Ricky’s new onscreen friendship— so I’m excited to see how the fans respond to that.
What were some of the inspirations behind holiday spectacular?
Love Actually was a source of inspiration in terms of interweaving different holiday stories. We even pay direct homage to Love Actually in one of our scenes. I wonder if fans will find that Easter egg!
I really hope the fans love the stories we tell in this holiday movie. We worked really hard to give them a fun holiday crossover. It was such an amazing experience, and I hope they love it as much as I do!
