Darius Marcell: The 411
We caught up with Darius Marcell, from Total Eclipse and Brat Chat. Here's what he had to say!
Darius, you're living your best life—we can see it in your smile. What's your secret?
My smile is always genuine. All of our smiles are genuine, actually. My cast mates, I mean. When you see us hanging out, whether it be on set or out and about, we aren’t faking it--we’re actually happy and having a good time.
And what makes you so happy?
Acting! I’m on two shows now. One is Total Eclipse, where I play Spencer, and now there’s Brat Chat, which is a completely different type of show. Basically on Brat Chat Indie [Indiana Massara] and I interview some of the stars about their shows, maybe play some games with them, and then we have a musical guest come on to perform. It airs every Sunday.
Of all the scenes you've filmed, which was the most fun?
It was on Total Eclipse and the scene took place outside the cafeteria. Jenna leaves the cafeteria and Spencer follows her out. That day I was losing my voice so I was really worried I’d sound crazy, but it ended up actually sounding extremely cool! Also my hair looked dope on screen, which I wasn’t expecting either. Anyway, that was Episode 8, Last Quarter.
In between filming and homeschool, how do you like to spend your free time?
I just watched all of The Office on Netflix and when I started it I was like....why didn’t I watch this sooner?!? It’s hilarious, but I also learned a lot from it. Jim and Pam’s relationship taught me how if you stick with something it can work out in the end.
What about books, any favorites?
My character on Total Eclipse is a major book kid, but I’m not. I do have a favorite book though. It’s called I Funny by James Patterson. It’s about a middle-schooler in a wheelchair who wants to be a great stand up comedian. I’m inspired by his determination and ability to stay positive even in terrible times.
We all have our ups and downs. How do you cope with the downs?
Anxiety and depression go on with everyone at one time or another, and that includes me. But I don’t let it get in the way of my happiness. So when I’m sad or things get hard, I focus on what I know will make me happy, like spending time with my mom and my brother and my friends. And listening to music! Those are the things that create happiness in my life.
What do you see in your future?
My plans are to keep working hard and staying busy. My biggest dream is to have my own show one day.
Do you have one last fun fact you want to share with your friends?
I have two dream cars on my mind that I hope to buy one day, the Nissan GTR and the Tesla Falcon. I can’t wait ‘til I have my license so I can just go get McDonald’s whenever I want!
