Sofia... by Leland Blue
This song is the perfect pull at the heart strings for me because the lyrics are so sad, but the song has such a happy, upbeat vibe! This showed me that when I write a sad song it doesn’t necessarily need to be a ballad! You can be happy and sad all at the same time.
The Ocean by Led Zeppelin
I’m a HUGE Zeppelin fan (but who isn’t, am I right?) and this song has one of the best and most recognizable guitar melodies of all time. Robert Plant’s voice is absolutely captivating.
Too Late to Turn Back Now by Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose
Motown music is the one genre of music that will put me in a better mood! The strings in the background are what got me in this song. The song tells the story of falling in love and how all consuming the feeling is, which I could totally relate to.
This Charming Man by The Smiths
This song just makes me want to dance in my room and jump on my bed!!
You Only Live Once by The Strokes
To say I am a die hard fan of The Strokes would be an understatement. This guitar melody is infectious (what I’m realizing as I write this is I am just a sucker for good guitar melodies). I love Julian’s rasp in his voice and even though his voice isn’t the prettiest, you can hear how much emotion is behind every lyric he sings. When I sing I try and not care about how good I sound, and I strive to just convey emotion and have the audience connect to that. Every human being just wants to connect and know that people feel the same way that they do.
