Ricky Garcia: The 411
Ricky Garcia plays bad boy vampire Ian on Red Ruby. Scroll for the full 411 interview on the actor behind the role!
What was your favorite scene from Red Ruby to shoot?
I’ve never played a villain character before, so every scene was an extremely fun challenge. I was always cracking jokes in between takes to keep things lighthearted.
How did you get into acting?
When I was about ten years old, I was doing theatre shows and always watching Disney Channel. I admired the people who were making me laugh and I wanted to do the same for other people out there. I started doing impersonations of anything possible, and the energy of the entertainment industry grew on me really quickly until I was totally engulfed in it.
Where are you from originally?
I’m from San Antonio, Texas.
What do you love about being on set?
Showing up to work always knowing it’s going to be good energy, making something cool with a team, it never feels like work!
What do you hate about being on set?
Nothing! The Red Ruby set was especially good vibes.
Who is a figure from History that you admire or look up to?
Martin Luther King Jr. He brought so much equality to America and is someone to be grateful for.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I don’t really know, I never look too far in the future. I like to live in the moment and focus on that. I mean I’d like a house...but life isn’t about that. As long as I’m enjoying what I’m doing, that’s all that matters.
What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not on set or working?
I like to go to the beach. I’m a big fan of surfing. Any time I get out on the board it’s so relaxing and meditative.
If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be, and why?
Maybe somewhere in Africa. I’ve always wanted to go to Africa. I’d like to be able to volunteer and help out. There’s so much poverty. One of my best friends went on a mission to Haiti and that inspired me to be of service to anyone in need.
What’s your favorite TV show currently?
The Walking Dead.
If you could be someone else for a day who would it be, and why?
I think it would be intersting to be Bruno Mars or Justin Bieber, someone on that monumental level of fame. I’d be curious to see what it’s really like to have no privacy.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
I haven’t eaten ice cream in a bit. But I think maybe a caramel hot fudge sundae. The more chocolatey the better.
What’s your favorite ride at Disneyland?
I used to love Tower of Terror, and I’m dying to ride the new version now that it’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Before we wrap up, can you tell us one last fun fact about yourself?
I can touch my nose with my tongue!
